Description: Tim Hortons confirmed that it laid off 350 people – these job cuts came mainly at Tim Horton’s headquarters and regional offices. Employees mentioned that they did not see these job cuts coming and were blindsided, especially because when Burger King acquired Tim Hortons last year, there were no indication of job cuts.

Questions for Discussion:

  1. Discuss possible reasons why Tim Hortons laid off employees?
  2. Why are most acquisitions followed by layoffs in the acquired firm?
  3. Will such restructuring help to make Tim Hortons a major global brand?
